The Negroni is considered an aperitive, traditionally enjoyed as a pre-dinner drink, it can be enjoyed at any time of the night as a serious cocktail. The cocktail became popular in the 1950’s and is regarded now as a classic. The name “Negroni” is an Italian surname and the drink is believed to be named after the Count Negroni when he asked the bartender to strengthen the Americano by adding gin, rather than the normal soda water.
